If you want to become a ServiceNow Developer, I would recommend following a structured learning path through the ServiceNow Now Learning platform. Start with the Welcome to ServiceNow and ServiceNow Fundamentals courses to understand the platform, navigation, tables, forms, lists, users, groups, roles, and basic administration concepts. Once you have a solid foundation, move on to the System Administration Fundamentals learning path, which covers user administration, ACLs, notifications, Service Catalog, reporting, and other essential administrative topics. This knowledge is important because developers are expected to understand how the platform is configured and managed.

After completing the administration track, follow the Application Developer Learning Path on Now Learning. Here, you will learn JavaScript in ServiceNow, Client Scripts, Business Rules, Script Includes, UI Policies, GlideRecord, GlideAjax, Flow Designer, and application development concepts. This is the core developer curriculum and will help you understand how to build and customize applications on the platform. Alongside the training, practice by creating custom tables, applications, workflows, and automations in a Personal Developer Instance (PDI).

Once you are comfortable with development fundamentals, continue with topics such as IntegrationHub, REST APIs, Scripted REST APIs, Import Sets, Transform Maps, Service Portal, UI Builder, and Workspaces. These skills are commonly used in enterprise implementations and integrations. To strengthen your practical knowledge, build real-world projects such as employee onboarding, leave management, asset tracking, or incident automation solutions.

For certifications, the recommended path is to first complete the Certified System Administrator (CSA) learning path and certification, followed by the Certified Application Developer (CAD) learning path and certification. After that, you can choose a specialization based on your interests, such as ITSM, IRM/GRC, HRSD, CSM, SPM, or ITOM, and follow the corresponding implementation specialist learning paths available on Now Learning.
