Introduction
Anyone who has worked with CMDB knows that understanding a single Configuration Item often requires navigating multiple records, reviewing relationships, validating discovery data, checking compliance, and investigating duplicates.
As a ServiceNow Architect and active community contributor, I wanted to simplify this process for practitioners who work with CMDB daily.
This led to the creation of CMDB Guardian, a free Chrome Extension designed specifically for the ServiceNow community.
Why I Built CMDB Guardian
While working on CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping, and ITOM implementations, I noticed that engineers and administrators spend significant time:
Reviewing CI relationships
Investigating duplicate records
Checking CMDB health
Validating mandatory attributes
Troubleshooting data quality issues
Navigating between multiple records
I wanted to create a lightweight tool that could provide these insights directly from the active CI record.
