Articles, Blogs, Videos, Podcasts, Share projects - Experiences from the field
Hi there,
Also seen a ton of posts flying by on the ServiceNow IDE? Curious to try it out? To be honest, most of those posts are not very legit... as the ServiceNow IDE is NOT available for Personal Developer Instances! So people are sharing images of something they saw somewhere, though most of them are not able to actually try it out 😀.
The ServiceNow IDE is available for customer instances. If you are one of the few customers having upgraded a subproduction instance to Xanadu Patch 0 (Early Access) already (or reading this later), then you can get after it! Though uhhh how, as "ServiceNow IDE" is not listed in the Application Manager?!
ServiceNow Store
Keen on getting started with the new ServiceNow IDE, opening the Application Manager through "System Definition > Plugins" and searching for "ServiceNow IDE"... no results. Once you know it, you know it :-). This is something you might face for a lot more Store applications. You need to make the ServiceNow IDE application available for entitlement on your instances.
1) Logged in to the ServiceNow store website with an account linked to your company, search for the ServiceNow IDE.
2) When having found the ServiceNow IDE, hit "Get" on the top right.
03) Make the ServiceNow IDE available for all your instances of select specific instances. You might notice "Purchase of ServiceNow IDE", though don't worry... it's free.
Application Manager (System Definition > Plugins)
Once the ServiceNow IDE application is entitled on your instances, you should be able to find the ServiceNow IDE in the Application Manager.
1) Search for "IDE" (with the double quotes) or "sn_glider".
If the ServiceNow IDE is not listed, perhaps you need to do a manual Sync, using the "Sync now".
2) Install the ServiceNow IDE 😎.
Result
Once the installation is done, after refreshing the menu items, you should find the ServiceNow IDE under "System Applications > ServiceNow IDE". This will open up a new window (/sn_glider_ide.do).
To save myself a bit of time, I've added an SNUtils Slachcommand under "/ide".

That's it. Hope this benefits you. If any questions or remarks, let me know!

"ServiceNow IDE is NOT available for Personal Developer Instances"
This is cruel. As a developer I'm eager to play with the new toys.

I agree with @PierMingo. For me, I treat my PDI as my personal, isolated sandbox, where I can install and test new tools and apps without worrying about possible issues I might cause on our shared, owned instance. My PDI is typically nearly OOB most of the time, without all the digital debit or PII that a cloned instance is going to carry over from production. This allows me to install and learn about many new developments or family upgrades without concerns about the impact or confusion I could cause with the other efforts of my team.
While I certainly understand that offering PDIs costs ServiceNow to maintain, I believe their benefits are still there in the form of a more informed and capable community of developers, admins, and others.

Awesome news, as a frontend dev that made a career switch to the ServiceNow world, this is exiting.
We'll be able to create portals with this IDE as well?

Hey @EdwinCoronado, I saw this post and saw that ServiceNow IDE had been updated to the 1.1 release, with release notes in the store saying it should be available for PDIs. But I'm not seeing it in the store applications list or the plugins list in my PDI.
I'm very excited to try out this new developer friendly tool! If you could let me know what steps I can take to install this.

@marklfw IDE is a Store product, synchronize first the application manager with the store by clicking on the "Sync now" button. That's how I did it.
