Activties section not showing multiple currencies for changes in 'currency' type field

I have a currency type field set up with multiple currencies (INR, GBP, EUR, USD). When I change the currency or the amount then the message in activities section shows the change with the default currency of the system (set to GBP).
Suppose I Change the field's value from €1,000 to $1,000 then why is the reference value (amount converted in default currency) being shown in the activities and not the display value?
Can this behaviour be altered to show something like this:
$1,000 was €1,000

that's because system always calculates the currency in default currency
