Hello developers,
Would adding a field to an OOB table be considered a Customization or Configuration? I spoke with a consultant, and they mentioned that it's a configuration but someone else mentioned that it is considered a customization.
The background information is that we're using the an OOB customer order table. There isn't a field on the OOB table for some of the information that we want to capture, for example, the type of customer (choice field). I'm leaning towards just adding the field to the customer order table but wanted to know if it would cause any problems, regarding upgrades or anything else that I may not be aware of? Or would it be best to repurpose a field on that OOB table to suit my business needs?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,

Customization refers to the process of modifying ServiceNow to suit the unique needs of an organization, while configuration involves setting up and configuring the platform to support specific business processes and workflows.
I will consider it as a Configuration because adding a field to the OOB table is a functionality provided by ServiceNow and does not require any modification to ServiceNow

Hi @cnharris1,
It will be a configuration NOT a customization. This will not cause any issues during upgrades.
