Auto assign REQ with API

I have a requirement where I need perform auto assignment of REQ and RITM types based on an external criteria. I was looking for APIs which I can use from my external plugin and assign to users.

I am new to SN and any help will be appreciated.

What kind of criteria? Why not just configure your external criteria into the assignment rules? What is your usecase? Records are created in ServiceNow and you want to go outside of it to see who needs to pick it up? Just use the OOB functionality. What are those criteria and where are the stored?

Next to that: just assign the RITM's, not the REQ's. Those are just the parent record for all service requests.

We have a use case of also checking certain in and out data of employees and assign based on those rules.

Anyways, when I create a assignment rule to assign to a group, it just adds the assignment group but doesn't assign to a user

You can put that logic in as well. Check on AWA, which can help you a lot. 

Without knowing your use case and criteria it's hard to assist here.

what type of communication requered to servicenow
