Can you access Instance during upgrade ?

Hello All,

my Org is going for Production instance vancouver upgrade and I had a question since I will be involved in the upgrade for the first time. During the upgrade would the user be able to access ITSM functionalities like creating incident , change , functionalities like that ? or instance iwll not be available to users for upgrade time ? 

Any info on this would be great to know. Me and my org are new to servicenow

Yes you can access instance but it not recommended as the core files are updating and many internal synch going on, which may get impacted or user may see some unexpected behaviour while accessing the records.

So in short, avoid the access during upgrade.

You can access the instance during upgrade just to monitor how the upgrade is progressing, however you should not give access to user as the instance files are updating.
