Creating a HelpDesk

Hello, I am a new Dev looking for some help. My organization is phasing out their old helpdesk and trying to transition over to ServiceNow for their new helpdesk/ticketing platform; and I have been tasked with creating a sandbox help desk ticketing system but I'm not sure I am able to do this for "free" I've been tinkering with ServiceNow's free app engine studio but I'm lost on how and where to go for this. I was told all I had to do was create service now profile, go to a dashboard and "create a new project" for my service desk where I can configure a ticketing system, workflows etc... I just don't know where to start or where to find this. This is needed so that I can set up a "demo" for our customers.

 

Questions:

Does my organization first have to purchase this type of package and then receive a "key" or special instance to be able to set this up?

 

Am I able to set up my own helpdesk environment with ServiceNows free environments like app engine studio or now learning?
