Please advise when we should go for custom table creation

We create a custom table, mainly for scoped applications or when the functionality doesn't exit in SN.

What is maximum number of fields can be created on task table as per ServiceNow recommendation.

I went the link shared by you, I could see its only 50. with this number its difficult to achieve the requirement where customer moving from legacy application which having 100 + fields which are unique ,does not match to servicenow incident table . what can be done in such case

As per the shared doc, the limit is 50 but as you said, the legacy application has 100+ fields, so better try to extend it from other table, might be task or Incident which best fit.

 

More new field, cost you more also increase the technical debt.
