Type in Maintain Items in your Application Navigator Search Bar.
Click on Maintain Items-> Search for New User catalog item in there.
Click on the catalog item.
Now on the top of the catalog item, click on Copy Sys_Id, this will be your Catalog Item's sys id.

Ahh - got it - says copy to clipboard -where/what is clipboard? Notepad?
