From CMDB directly- Let's say ur data in cmdb comes from discovery or some other source while it gets created\ updated it does also create an asset there is an OOTB business rule. Now this does not happen for every class of CMDB. cmdb_ci_hardware this is the class. Now whenever let's say any update happens to the CI it gets reflected in the asset as well. Maybe the CI name or model or status.
From Asset or hardware table directly - The CI field can be updated directly from hardware table as well while u bulk upload or update it via script.
