How far back does ServiceNow keep backups for instance restore?

Incremental backups occur every day except Sunday. On Sundays we perform a full instance backup. The incremental backups are retained for 7 calendar days and our full instance backups are retained for 30 calendar days. Unfortunately, we can not support on-demand backups and we are unable to adjust backup times.

Tyler, as mentioned above by Dravvy as well mentioned in the Hi KB article Pradeep posted, ServiceNow's backup policy is:



Backups can happen any time during the day (there are no off hours). Backup times are not consistent across the Datacenter or even a customer. Backup times may shift over time. Typically, a database should have:


  • backup no older than 24 hours
  • full backup no older than a week


Older backups are automatically deleted according to the cleanup policy. We keep:


  • 7 days of daily backups
  • 30 days of weekly backups


So the net of it is we keep 30 days and that is it.

The Hi KB article that Pradeep posted states that I do not have sufficient privileges to view the article even when logged into HI.   That may be something to look at for the future
