You can create categories and add different catalog item to categories to divide them into section

Form sections are created in any form using 'Form Layout' or 'Form Design'.

you can use container start and container end to group similar variables and you can specify 2 column layout.

section is not possible on catalog items

You can use "Container start" and "Container end" for dividing the form into different sections as below:

If you want to split the row in two columns please use "container split".
