I receved an email yesterday saying that my [personal development] instance was being upgraded to Istanbul patch 9 an that I needed to save my work to an update set. As someone who is new to ServiceNow, I do not know what that means or how to do that. Can someone please advise?

Hi William,

Whenever you're making changes on Service Now you should be working from within an update set, this will save the changes you make so that you can easily move them from dev to production. You may not be planning on moving your work from your personal instance but saving everything within update sets is a good habit to get in to.

Assuming you have been working from the default update set, you can move your changes into a different set by navigating to the update sets application and creating a new local update set. If you open the default update set, right click on the search term in the customer updates related list and select open in new window you can then change the update set your changes belong to from the list view in the new window.
