How to set default dashboard for itil and ess users based on their role

How to setup user's default dashboards based on user access level for "itil" and ess(non role) user. I already created 2 dashboards for ess and ITIL dashboard. I am trying to make the below dashboards for below users groups, but still no luck.
1. ESS user's should default to "Self Service" dashboard when they first log in
2. ITIL users should default to "ITIL dashboard" when they first login

In Quebec release users' homepages auto set based on users' access level (ITIL or ess users) at their first login. That means when ITIL user login their homepage auto set to  "ITIL Homepage" and if user is ess then their home page auto set to "Self Service" home page.

but from Sandiego release onward homepages are no longer available and I am looking for a way to set ITIL and ess default dashboard at  their first login.

I searched the community articles and some doc but still could not find a way.

I  have setup user preference for ITIL dashboard as in below picture. When ITIL user login then their dashboard defaulted to "ITIL dashbaord"  as expected but when ess(non role) user login then they get an error.

Hi,

I believe you need to set up user preference record for all ESS users by selecting their names & defaulting value of dashboad.

Same applies to ITIL users & seems the only way. Since, the preference you shared has User field empty it assumes it is for all users & thus when ESS users log in they get the error as shared from your end.

Unfortunately, I doubt there is any option to control it on basis of role.

Hi Jaspal,

Thanks for the response.

How do I setup user preference record for the all ESS users by selecting their names & defaulting value of dashboard as we have more than 2000 plus ess users.

I wonder how other organization handle this during the upgrade to Sandiego or Tokiyo.

Hi @attanhes,

That's not an error. Actually the dashboard "ITIL Dashboard" is not shared with ESS users that's the reason you are getting restriction messages.

You can follow the approach described in the below article to make the dashboard dynamic based on user role.

In the script, homepage has been set by using property "homepage" user preference you can replace that with "my_home_navigation_page".
