Is it a best practise to create relationship table between Asset and cmdb_ci_sim_card?

Hi Community,

I’ve enabled the CMDB CI SIM Card plugin to track SIM cards.
To associate SIM cards with assets, I added a reference field on the Asset [alm_asset] form that points to CMDB CI – SIM Card [cmdb_ci_sim_card].

This works from a data perspective, but on the SIM Card record I don’t see an Edit button or an easy way to manage the relationship from the related list side.

Because of this, I’m considering creating a CMDB relationship (cmdb_rel_ci) between Asset and SIM Card instead of (or in addition to) a simple reference field.

Before doing that, I wanted to ask:

Is using a reference field on Asset the recommended approach for linking SIM cards?

Is there a OOTB relationship type between Asset and SIM Card that should be used?

Would creating a custom relationship type introduce reporting, reconciliation, or CMDB health issues?

How do others typically model SIM cards assigned to devices/assets (especially when SIMs may change over time)?

Any best-practice guidance or real-world implementation advice would be greatly appreciated.

The SIM card has a relationship with the user through an assigned to. & have asset tag as well.

what relationship you are looking for ? Any screenshot please.

Hi Atul

There is no edit button on the related list of the Sim form so Assets couldn't be added. Attached screenshot for reference. Probably there is no relationship between Asset table and Sim card, so need suggestion if its best practise to create relationship table between these two or is there any better way to deal this.
