Issue with Microsoft Outlook and Email Connectors in ServiceNow RPA

Hi Community,

I'm working on a ServiceNow RPA POC that involves sending emails through RPA from one of:

  • Microsoft Outlook Connector
  • Email Connector (SMTP)

However, I'm facing issues with both methods and would appreciate any guidance or suggestions.

Issue 1: Microsoft Outlook Connector

Error Message:
Cannot create ActiveX component

This occurs when I run the SetAccount method of MicrosoftOutlook connector.
Outlook is installed locally
The bot runs on the same machine
Outlook has been opened and initialized manually
Still, this error persists.

Issue 2: Email Connector (SMTP)

Error Message:
Service not available, closing transmission channel. The server response was: Cannot connect to SMTP server

This happens when I try to use the Email Connector to send via SMTP.
Credentials and SMTP host are configured correctly
Port settings are checked
Still unable to connect — possibly due to firewall or authentication?

What I’m Looking For:

  • Any troubleshooting steps for ActiveX initialization issues in Microsoft Outlook Connector

  • Clarification on Email Connector’s SMTP requirements (authentication, encryption, etc.)

  • Suggestions for alternatives, if any connector has better reliability in this setup

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,

Krishna Jadhav

Hi Krishna,

For Outlook issue, can you confirm if you have  Outlook (Classic) application installed in your machine.
