Hi everyone,
By any chance, is there a way to move existing variables in a catalog item into a variable set? I'm working on a fairly complex catalog item that currently contains hundreds of variables and we are looking to merge it with another catalog item. This current item also has a secondary catalog item to add extra things to the request, so those new merged variables will need to reflect there. The best way to accomplish this is to have variable sets that we can simply place in the secondary item.
Has anyone had experience in doing this? Any information would be very helpful.
Thank you,
Amandah

As an added clean up; blank out the 'catalog item' field on the variables that were included in the variable set. This will eliminate them from showing on the Catalog Item. They will only show when the Variable set is included.
Variable should either be 'part of a variable set' or 'individual for a catalog item', so only one of the fields should be populated.

Hi Mark,
That I can't be sure of. Did you paste in the name of the variable set or search it? The only thing I can think of is you put in the name and it didn't fully process before you hit save. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else it could be.
Anyone else?

I pasted it in, as it didn't show up when I clicked the search magnifying
glass. But somehow, when I pasted it in, the words Cat Item changed to
Variable set. So it seems to recognize that it is a variable set and not a
Catalog Item.

I found out the key was as you said, to first remove the entry in the Cat Item field.
Then the new Variable set field would show up, and then I could put the variable set name in.
I was trying to replace the entry in the Cat Item field with the Variable set because I saw no Variable set field in which to enter anything.
It is really hard to get used to the way things work in ServiceNow.
But it looks like I'm getting closer to having everything work as I hoped.

Hi Amandah,
When the variables are moved under variable sets, then the single variables will be the one with catalog item filled in. So just select the variables with catalog item not empty and variable set empty.
Please let me know how the variables are selected for deletion.

Thank you, it's been sorted. I just had the Variable Set and the Catalog Item columns both populated.
