Notification Email Fails with Error "550 5.2.0 From Address is Not Allowed" When Using a Custom Send

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a requirement where I need to send a notification from a specific email address from ServiceNow.

To achieve this, I configured the desired email address in the From field of the notification. For testing purposes, I also enabled the notifications from email properties. However, when I triggered the notification and checked the email logs, the email status was displayed as Send-Failed.

The following error appears in the logs:

550 5.2.0 From address is not allowed

I've attached a screenshot for reference.

Could someone help me understand why this error is occurring and what needs to be configured or changed to resolve it? Has anyone faced a similar issue when using a custom sender email address in notifications?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You can't solve that. It's on the receiving side.

This means that the receiving mail server rejected the outbound email from ServiceNow because the sender address or domain fails the recipients anti-spoofing restrictions. This is exactly what you are doing: spoofing. And with the risk it has (an email coming in pretending to be from one party, but is in fact from somewhere else), it can be blocked.
If you have a custom SMTP relay, it can also be within your own network and you need to reach out to your network people.
