Populate new variables on older RITMs?

We have a catalog item that has been in use for a bit, (100-200 uses), and has just had 4 new variables added to it. The values for these are able to be calculated.

My question is if it's possible to retroactively create/populate the variables on the RITMs that were created before the variables existed?  If so, how would I go about that?

No. The variables wont exist in the older requested items, so can't populate it. Any new variables only applies to the new RITM created from the catalog item. Depending on the kind of variable, you may want to populate it in the description using a background script.
