Are roles in Service Now standard or customizable? If customizable, is there a way to show the permissions assigned to each role.

Hi @Nikita50 ,

Yes, being an admin you can modify the OOB role behavior. Contain roles are basically those role which are inherited in the ITIL role. Role you can think of just a record and that role needs to be mapped with ACL then only with that role will help in configuring the access of the system.

Both ServiceNow provides standard (out-of-the-box) roles as well as the ability to create custom roles based on business requirements.

  • Standard Roles: ServiceNow includes predefined roles like admin, itil, catalog_admin, approver, etc.
  • Custom Roles: You can create roles with specific permissions tailored to your organization's needs

Hi @Nikita50

It’s both. OOTB, many roles come with the modules, but if needed, you can create a custom role. Then, you’ll assign this role to tables/modules and subsequently assign the role to groups and users."
