Reference field displaying sys_id Instead of name value

I have created a reference field within a table but taking a look at the table list the reference field shows the sys_id instead of the label name?

The parent name is "Test".

I have made display value true on the field but it still shows the sys_id rather than name.

Is this a custom table you created?

Make sure, you don't have any other field set to display as true.

That is the only field with display value as true and it shows as a blank field in the table list view.

The record you see, does it exists? Sometimes if the reference record gets deleted, it shows the sysid instead. Try creating a new record and see if that works. 

Also open a record in the reference table and check if it shows you display value as Menu header or sysid

ok i understand your problem.

So you need to change layout of reference.

for this right click on column then configure the list layout,and select name from slush bucket as below.
