Removing "Preview Record" icon from reference variable

I am trying to remove the "Preview Record" icon from a reference variable on a record producer (see screenshot below). I tried adding ref_decoration_disabled=true as a variable attribute, but that did not work. Is there another way I can get this to go away?

Does ref_decoration_disabled=true not work on variables? I would really prefer to do this without scripting if possible.
