Which approach should i follow while developing app's ?
I) Update Set

Any Expert can give suggestions with advantage and disadvantage of approaches.

Julian, I do like to hear this, BUT, what about the platform run time license? We cannot seem to ever get a clear answer on when that applies and are worried about running into that for our customers when configuring their systems using scoping.

In general, you need platform runtime license when you implement a new business process or extend an existing process in ways which are basically not in scope with an existing application you have a license for. Just using the application scopes by themselves does not have a license impact.
Of course, this is just a generic guideline, to clarify the details you should contact your sales representative.
