🚨 A Practical Guide to Configuring Email! 🚨

Did you know that Personal Developer Instances (PDIs) in ServiceNow have been misused for sending spam emails, both accidentally and maliciously? To tackle this issue while still enabling notifications, ServiceNow has restricted email servers to a single domain.

The solution? Guerrilla Mail for inbound email and Gmail SMTP for outbound email configurations! Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting it up:

⚙️ Outbound Email Configuration

1️⃣ Enable Email Sending

  • Go to System Properties > Email Properties in your PDI.
  • Ensure "Email sending enabled" is checked.

2️⃣ Set Up Gmail SMTP

  • Create an App Password in your Google account:

    • Sign in to your Google Account and navigate to Security Settings.
    • Turn on 2-Step Verification under "How you sign in to Google."
    • Search for App Passwords in the Security tab.
    • Generate and copy the 16-character App Password.
  • Configure Gmail SMTP in your ServiceNow instance:

    • Navigate to Email Accounts in the left-hand menu.
    • Click New and set up the following:
      • Type: SMTP
      • Authentication: Password
      • Server: smtp.gmail.com
      • User Name: Your full Gmail address
      • Password: Paste the app password generated.
      • Connection Security: SSL/TLS
      • Port: 465
    • Save and test the connection to ensure it works!

📬 Inbound Email Configuration

  • Use Guerrilla Mail for temporary inbound email addresses:
    • Visit Guerrilla Mail.
    • Select guerrillamail.com in the domain dropdown to generate a temporary email address.

Why This Setup?

  • Prevent spam while retaining essential email notifications on your PDI.
  • Simplify testing and development with a clean, functional email configuration.
  • Enjoy secure and seamless email communication for both outbound and inbound flows.

💡 Pro Tip: Always test your configurations thoroughly to avoid disruptions in email communication.
