Source of swimlane dropdown values?

Dear Community,

when creating a new visual task board, I would like to use the Project name (from pm_project table) for the swimlane.

Now, when I want to configure this, I do not see the Project name, neither the Description choices in the 'Swimlane Field (optional)' dropdown menu:

Why can't I find it?

Also, I created a dictionary entry for a function field so I can display the concatenated project name and project number in this newly created field on the pm_project table, the field is called 'Project display name', but again, I do not see this field in the swimline dropdown choices.

Can anyone please advise what I'm doing wrong or how to proceed? Thank you very much

Hi Daniel, 

I believe this is designed so that you cannot select a string field as a swim lane as this could cause a lot of performance issues when trying to organise the board and would not be ideal from a categorising, 

As it would lead to countless swimlanes and therefore system only allows you to select a reference field or a field with defined choices.  

I would suggest have a swimlane to organise it by priority or product (i.e. a field with choices. 

Depends on your requirement.

Reason is Short Description is text type/ string and it is not easy to bring that as label or swim lane.

I don't think that's correct, as there are other 'string' type field choices in that dropdown which can actually be selected..

I tried for Incident table and it is not appearing

Swim lanes , need a input which can be clubbed as show as 1.

sorry, my mistake, a field I thought was a 'string' field and appeared in the dropdown...was not! 🙂
