\$sp.getParameter('sys_id') returning null

I created a widget but my $sp.getParameter('sys_id') returns null. How do I fix it? Just want to mention that I am new to service Portal.

Is your URL (page) has the sys_id value in it? I mean, in which page you are calling this widget?
