Hello everyone,
I'm hoping someone may be able to help or point me in the right direction. We are trying to connect Tableau Desktop (application is on specific computers, not web based) to ServiceNow (Utah, latest patch) via the "connector" that is built into the Tableau Desktop application.
In short, Tableau only asks for the URL, the username (local account on ServiceNow), the password and that is it. I have reviewed the information on Tableau's website for the connector (Tableau ServiceNow Link) and we have everything setup as it shows. However, the local account is NOT an admin account. We really do not want to elevate the privileges like that. As far as I can tell, this isn't necessary.
The user can connect with the Tableau Desktop, but it keeps timing out saying that the "time limit has been exceeded". I have looked this information up (as well as the actual error number) and it is no help at all.
Has anyone been able to use the Tableau Desktop ServiceNow connector effectively and able to connect? Did you have to do anything regarding any proxy to set it up? Anything special on the backend of ServiceNow to get it to allow the connection to work?
Thank you for any help!

@MichaelSSA - I'm trying to think of other avenues to try and get this to work. Yes, we can connect to Tableau, but, as you mentioned, there is no way we can download all that data in a timely manner. I'm going to try a couple of things such as a scheduled job to see if I can do a full export overnight and then see if that file can be opened easier in Tableau or something to that effect.
Only thing is that the data technically would be "old" because it would be from the night before (if you run the scheduled job nightly). But I'm going to try some other avenues and report back.

Bump for visibility. We've also just recently setup the tableau connector and are able to login and connect fine, but when trying to pull any data from ServiceNow the result is just the sys_tags field with no information. We gave the proper roles and updated ACLs to allow access to the 3 tables listed above, but only when the user is given the admin role will they be able to pull info into Tableau. Any insights as to how to pull data without using the admin role?
