The Ability to Customize com.glideapp.servicecatalog_category

Today several UI Macros/UI Pages are customizable, but unfortunately com.glideapp.servicecatalog_category is not. Today I have to create a new UI Page from scratch in order to do any structure change on this Page.

This page is basically how your Catalog item is displayed on the catalog.

Some Examples of benefit:


* Include font-awesome Icons instead of Images for the Catalog Items


* Modify the font / background color / position of the text


* Do some condition to show some custom field

Usually its not advisable to change anything of out of box because of two reasons -



1. On upgrades, on applying patches, if the file is modified then the upgrade will be skipped usually, which is not recommended as you may loose some latest updates.


2. The platform code may dependent on the out of box script (which is rare)


Have it available for change doesn't mean everyone should change it.


It's important to have it available.

It might be because the protection policy for this record could be set to Read Only. This means only ServiceNow staff can edit the file.


As mentioned above, customer have issues after upgrades when they customise certain records because the update gets skipped to that particular file during upgrade. Certain records like this can be updated to protected if the impact is great as a result of customisation.
