Unable to create app in App Engine Studio – Scope name error

Suprajk

Hi Community,

I’m new to ServiceNow and working on my Personal Developer Instance (Zurich release).
Whenever I try to create my first app in App Engine Studio, I get this error:

“Unable to create this application. Go back to the create app experience and enter a different scope name. Details: Failed to create templated object, details: This scope is already taken by another application.”

Steps I already tried:

  • Reset and wiped the instance

  • Released and requested a new PDI

  • Used unique app names and descriptions

  • Verified my user role (App Engine Studio Creator)

But the error still appears and the app never gets created.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi @Suprajk ,

Have you tried, switiching the role to Admin to see if this works?

-On the Action menu button, select change user role and switch to Admin role

Hope this fixes your issue.

Hi @DGAJ,

Thank you for your suggestion! I did try switching my role to Admin as you recommended, but unfortunately, the same error still occurs.

For context, I have also:

  • Reset and wiped my instance

  • Released and requested new PDIs (tried multiple instances, including Zurich and Xanadu releases)

  • Tried unique app names and descriptions

  • Verified my user role as App Engine Studio Creator and switched to Admin

  • Even tried two different Admin users

Despite all these steps, the “scope already taken” error persists. It seems like this may be a backend issue with my account or the PDI release.

I’ll continue following the community for any official fixes or alternative workarounds. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for your help 🙏

Hi @Suprajk ,

Can you check it today as well. Servicenow made some changes and they changed the PDI home page as well.
