Unable to create app in App Engine Studio – Scope name error

Hi Community,

I’m new to ServiceNow and working on my Personal Developer Instance (Zurich release).
Whenever I try to create my first app in App Engine Studio, I get this error:

“Unable to create this application. Go back to the create app experience and enter a different scope name. Details: Failed to create templated object, details: This scope is already taken by another application.”

Steps I already tried:

  • Reset and wiped the instance

  • Released and requested a new PDI

  • Used unique app names and descriptions

  • Verified my user role (App Engine Studio Creator)

But the error still appears and the app never gets created.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance 🙏

@Suprajk have you resolved this issue? I'm new to SNOW as well, and I'm having the same problem today (first time created instance), Thanks

Hi @Suprajk ,

It means the scope internal name you chose derived (or auto generated) from your app name, is already in use somewhere in that instance or in the same namespace, and App Engine Studio doesn’t always let you override it directly, so the workaround many users apply is to prepend a unique token (date, initials, prefix) to your app name so the generated scope is unique, then after creation you can edit the Label back to your preferred app name.......

Hi @kaushal,

Thank you for your suggestion! I did try prepending unique tokens, initials, and prefixes to my app names, but unfortunately, the “scope already taken” error” still occurs.

For context, I have also:

  • Reset and wiped my instance

  • Released and requested new PDIs (tried multiple instances, including Zurich and Xanadu releases)

  • Verified my user role as App Engine Studio Creator and switched to Admin

  • Even tried two different Admin users

It seems like this may be a backend issue with my account or the PDI release, as all workarounds so far have not resolved the issue.

I really appreciate your guidance and will continue following the community for any official fixes or alternative workarounds.

Thanks again for your help 🙏

@Suprajk

Try to create unique name and see if it resolves the issue. Follow below threads for guidance

If it does not work, release the instance and get an instance with Xanadu release and try again. I have noticed few other users reporting this issue recently with no common working solution. If Xanadu release allows to create App, you can update it to Zurich later from Instance Management.

If this helped to answer your query, please mark it helpful & accept the solution.

Thanks,
