Unable to create app in App Engine Studio – Scope name error

Hi Community,

I’m new to ServiceNow and working on my Personal Developer Instance (Zurich release).
Whenever I try to create my first app in App Engine Studio, I get this error:

“Unable to create this application. Go back to the create app experience and enter a different scope name. Details: Failed to create templated object, details: This scope is already taken by another application.”

Steps I already tried:

  • Reset and wiped the instance

  • Released and requested a new PDI

  • Used unique app names and descriptions

  • Verified my user role (App Engine Studio Creator)

But the error still appears and the app never gets created.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance 🙏

I have created all 3 possible types of instances, zurich, yokohama, and xanadu and they all fail to create an application.  I either get a message that the name is not unique or the site just hangs on the creation.

I verified the scope I attempted to create was not present in the sys_scope.list as well.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your suggestions and guidance! I wanted to provide an update on what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Reset and wiped my instance

  2. Released and requested new PDIs, tried multiple instances including Zurich and Xanadu releases

  3. Tried unique app names and prepending tokens, initials, and prefixes

  4. Verified my user role as App Engine Studio Creator and switched to Admin

  5. Tried with two different Admin users

Despite all of these steps, whenever I try to create my first app in App Engine Studio, I still get the error:

“Unable to create this application. Go back to the create app experience and enter a different scope name. Details: Failed to create templated object, details: This scope is already taken by another application.”

It seems like this may be a backend issue with my account or the PDI release, as others have reported similar problems.

I really appreciate all your help and suggestions so far — including switching roles, unique tokens, and trying different releases. Any further guidance or official fixes would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again 🙏
