Hi,
On clicking VA chat in portal chat will be opened. This chat box is displayed over the background data as such. I am trying to open this chat in a separate column not as a separate window but as a side bar when the chat is clicked. looking for ideas to achieve this.

I am worried this will not be possible, I am 99 % sure.
You will spend here so many efforts on this and it will not be achievable anyways :((
There is a reason why ServiceNow is designed the way it is and if you try to do it differently then you will get bugs and errors.
Please can you explain me the motivation behind all this?
You either use the chatbot, so it is expanded and you don't need what's behind it or you are not using it, so it is collapsed and not blocking the content...
Don't forget that such excessive customisations are ticking timebomb.
"You touched it you own it" >>> so even though if you will make this possible[by some miracle] then any future error of anything distantly related to VA will not be supported by HI Case because of your customised stuff.
TL;DR not possible, not recommended to even try.
