Hi,
A milestone is a project task with a duration of zero (0). Use milestones to mark key dates in your project, such as key decision points, approvals, and holidays. Milestones are treated like any other project task and you can create dependencies between tasks and milestones.
In order to be displayed in portfolio workbench and reports, a milestone has to be flagged as a key milestone (checkbox). Otherwise, it is considered as an "operational" milestone used by a project manager for operational execution.

Thanks for the reply. I have already checked the links provided by you. It affects in the Portfolio workbench. I wanted to know the effect in the project gantt chart. I am not finding any difference in the project gantt chart.

We are currently struggling with this same question. Do you have examples that would illustrate the difference between a key milestone vs an "operational" milestone? As milestones help tell the story of the project to stakeholders, why would you not want all of them to appear in reports?
