Worklfow Editor verses Flow Designer

I am looking at creating workflows for testing on my Dev instance.  I see quite a few workflows that were created with Workflow Editor as this is also the same for my companies current workflows. 

Are there any issues with creating them using the newer preferred Flow Designer?  Can we have active workflows running from both?

Yes. we can have active workflows and flows running to automate processes/ workflows.

There is no any issue with automating business processes using flows in flow designers. Using flow designer we can build the processes without or less coding.
