When ServiceNow joined with other organizations to establish the Value Stream Management Consortium in March of 2021, a key aim was to help further an understanding of the topic of Value Stream Management (VSM) and the sharing of best practices to help increase VSM maturity.

Now, the VSMC have published the results of their first ‘State of Value Stream Management Report.’ The report is the result of a detailed survey of more than 250 respondents from organizations of a wide range of organizations of sizes and industries.

Read the report and see some “wow” moments, such as the correlation between the use of VSM practices and higher-performing organizations. As expected, organizations that are changing to be more product-centric are also doing better than those that remain project-centric, which is why ServiceNow supports a hybrid approach for those organizations managing the transition to product-centric operations.

Another key finding was that available automation was being underutilized: “Whilst organizations continually strive to focus on business outcomes, few are using the technology available to make this easy. The survey indicates 36% of respondents are still manually connecting flow data to understand how it connects to business results, and of the 44% who are automating this task, only 8% are using a purpose-built value stream management platform (VSMP). We believe the Now Platform® provides a simple way to connect and augment the entire value stream from ideation to operation and our IT Business Management (ITBM) and DevOps products combine to automate the data gathering and reporting aspects of value stream management to aid with optimization.
