@Black Coder This looks excellent for a draft design. I love the colour choices and the widget layouts. Few pointers from me
- If you have Employee Center Pro, you can use a feature called App Launcher. This allows you to setup Applications, their URL's and if they use SSO etc. to create a cleaner experience for users looking to access other applications from the Employee Center.
Access applications from app launcher (servicenow.com)
- Be careful customising OOTB widgets or assets. Our general advice is to not do this. Customised widgets or assets will be marked as such, and skipped by release updates. So if we ever release new feature, optimisations or enhancements you will need to manage this manually every time, as opposed to just getting them instantly. The Header Menu is one I strongly advice against customising, and using the 'More' menu where possible.
- The 'My Items' widget is a complex OOTB widget that uses a lot of scripts and code to call on backend functions. The widget works by you setting up what you want to show there through configuration through the main platform UI. I'd avoid customising this. You can easily add anything you want to it (like in your example cases or documents) but just be wary about customising the widget itself.
- Popular topics slightly greyer and overlapping the header looks nice. Should just require some CSS additions to the widget and the page.
Best of luck with it, it looks like it's going to be great 🙂

This is a really old post so I apologize for asking almost 2 years later, but what is the general guidance on customizing for branding and look/feel? Is there a list of things that can be modified without touching the actual widgets and assets?

Hey @bandrews21
Branding can be done through the branding editor. You can setup color schemes whichever way you want and it won't be an issue.
If you decide to add CSS styling or theming to widgets, use the 'instance' of the widget. Never change the actual widget itself. The instance allows you apply CSS styling onto the instance of that widget, without customizing the widget itself.

Your mockup looks like this portal built by New Rocket so if you want this exact design you should consider reaching out to them.
