Does EmployeeWorks support External Content Connector?

I'm looking into the new ServiceNow EmployeeWorks solution. I would like to know if EmployeeWorks supports ingesting and indexing data that resides under other third-party platforms using External Content Connectors?

Hey @Max64,

Yes, and actually there are two connector layers stacked under EmployeeWorks, which trips people up. EmployeeWorks is Otto (the AI layer) plus Employee Slate Advanced, and Slate is built on top of the same platform Employee Center Pro sits on. Whatever External Content Connectors (XCC) you already have configured under AI Search carries forward automatically, ServiceNow has confirmed existing connectors and configurations apply to Employee Slate as-is, no rebuild needed.

A few things worth checking before you assume it's all one bucket:

• Native XCC requires a Workflow Data Fabric entitlement, this is the plugin-based crawler for SharePoint Online, Confluence Cloud, and a growing list of sources
• If you're running the Moveworks-powered Enterprise Search path inside Employee Slate, that's a separate connector catalog, 100+ built-in integrations (SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Slack, Outlook), managed through Moveworks' own admin console rather than the AI Search plugin list
• Permission mapping and crawl schedules are still per-source, so don't expect a single global config to cover both layers

Worth clarifying with your rep which path your instance is licensed for since the setup experience genuinely differs between the two.

Yes. EmployeeWorks can leverage External Content Connectors (ECCs) to ingest and index content from supported third-party repositories, making that content searchable and available within the EmployeeWorks experience.

Keep in mind:

• The third-party platform must be supported by a ServiceNow External Content Connector, or you'll need to build a custom connector if one isn't available.
• The connector is responsible for crawling, ingesting, and indexing the external content while respecting the source system's permissions (where supported).
• The indexed content can then be used by EmployeeWorks features such as Enterprise Search and AI-powered experiences, provided the necessary licensing and configuration are in place.
• The exact capabilities (incremental sync, ACL propagation, supported content types, etc.) depend on the specific connector being used.

If you have a particular third-party platform in mind (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence, Google Drive, Box, Salesforce, etc.), it would be worth checking whether ServiceNow provides a native connector for it or whether a custom integration is required.
