Employee Center vs. Employee Center Pro: what are the differences and what licenses are required?

KENGO_YAMAZAKI

We are planning to expand our use of ServiceNow within the company.

For the time being, we envision employees interacting with staff in our corporate functions, but going forward we intend to implement ITSM Advanced and broaden our use of ServiceNow.

With that in mind, the first thing we would like to do is set up the portal that employees will encounter as their initial point of contact. From some preliminary research, it appears there are several options — Service Portal, Employee Center, Employee Center Pro, and so on — but I do not yet have a clear understanding of how they differ from one another.

In particular, I would like to know what the differences are between Employee Center and Employee Center Pro, and what licenses are required for each.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

@KENGO_YAMAZAKI

my thoughts and comparison

  • Employee Center: better for a simple employee self-service launch.

  • Employee Center Pro: better for a broader employee experience portal.

  • Use Employee Center if the first phase is mainly requests, knowledge, and basic support.

  • Use Employee Center Pro if you want communications, campaigns, communities, and richer content.

  • Employee Center is lighter, faster, and simpler to govern.

  • Employee Center Pro is stronger for long-term expansion across IT, HR, and other functions.

  • Licensing: Pro usually needs stronger product entitlement and is not just a portal swap.

  • Decision rule: if you want speed and simplicity, choose Employee Center; if you want a strategic front door for future growth, choose Pro

Hi @Tanushree Maiti,

This is incredibly helpful — thank you! The comparison table answers my question perfectly, and the licensing notes are exactly the kind of detail I was missing.

We will start with Employee Center (Standard) and keep Pro in mind for a later phase.

Marked as the solution. Thanks again!

Best regards,
Kengo
