Redirect Mega Menu Child Topics to External URLs in Employee Center

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on customizing the Mega Menu within the Employee Center (ESC) and I've run into a bit of a challenge regarding external links.

Use Case

I want to add several external URLs under a specific Child Topic. For example, as shown in the attached screenshot, I have a menu item labeled "Intranet" under the Child Topic "News".

The Goal

Instead of navigating to a standard topic page within ServiceNow, I want the user to be redirected directly to the external URL immediately upon clicking "Intranet".

Has anyone implemented a similar solution or knows the best practice for "linking out" directly from the Mega Menu hierarchy? Any advice on whether this requires a specific Content Item type or a clone of the Mega Menu widget would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, you can achieve this with Advanced Portal Navigation.

Hi DritonC,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve already explored the Advanced Portal Navigation route; while it works fine for standard child topics, I'm struggling to get the specific hierarchy I need.

Ideally, I want to structure it exactly as shown in the screenshot: Worktools (Topic) -> News (Child Topic) -> Intranet (External Link). So far, I haven't been able to replicate this 3-level depth with an external redirect using the Advanced Navigation settings.
