Yes. I did do that, but this does not provide the status of the Request Item and if I add it to the task it is not easily discerned.  I guess I am confused as to why this would not be a normal use case. Am I using the Request Item incorrectly? A user requests something and if it has multiple steps I have the workflow creating catalog tasks for each step and the stage is updated upon completion of each task. I just want to be able to look at users' requests and see the associated stage and then look at tasks if not completed.... but to do this I have to create a report on tasks and pull the Req Item out through the tasks? This just seems backwards, no?
