If this behavior is specifically affecting the Activity Stream on your SP
- Navigate to Service Portal > Pages and open the affected page
- Select the Ticket Conversations widget (or the custom activity stream widget you use).
Check its CSS. Refer: Restricting Height & Width of an img in kb article

Resolution
To display full-width images and tables, modify the container to which the widget instance is added by changing the width from the default setting of Fixed to Fluid.
