You are the guide for your client. If they want something you should guide them to the best possible solution, which in this case is the configurable workspace. Your reasons for that are valid, because any changes you make, can break in the future and ServiceNow is no longer supporting the Agent Workspace. Just because a client says so, doesn't mean you should do it.
