Having accurate information in your CMDB is critical, especially in highly regulated business environments. In my last blog post, I talked about how the Desired State application can help you determine the state of CIs. Use the Data Certification application to verify the accuracy of CIs.
Data Certification enables you to schedule or perform on-demand validations of CMDB data. You define what must be verified, when the verification takes place, and who performs the verification. Certification tasks are assigned to individuals. The individuals answer questions to verify the data. For example, you could assign a team to validate that the CPU Speed, RAM, and CPU Core Count on all UNIX servers located in your organization's South Africa office meet minimum requirements.
After the certification tasks are performed, view audit results:
In this example, several of the UNIX servers in South Africa failed certification because minimum requirements were not met. Use the information to resolve the failures so the servers meet minimum requirements and certification passes.
If you are still not convinced, here are three more reasons to give the Data Certification application a try:
- Certification results can be used in the IT GRC application.
- Reusable certification filters can be created and used with certification schedules.
- Domain separated systems can use the Data Certification application.
