The best way to describe Now Platform App Engine is to say that it provides the entitlement for unlimited custom application development and extension capabilities for ServiceNow applications. With Now Platform App Engine you can change or extend an application that comes with your purchase of ServiceNow (e.g. Incident, Case Management, HR) or create a brand-new application to automate business processes for a variety of use cases. App Engine supports no-code, low-code, and pro-code development.

- Flow Designer lets process owners use natural language to automate approvals, tasks, notifications, and record operations without coding. Take the on demand Flow Designer Fundamentals course to learn how to implement rich process automation. Please note, Application Development Fundamentals also introduces and provides hands-on experience to Flow Designer.
- Not all applications speak with an external 3rd party applications, but if it is a requirement, developers should use IntegrationHub to automate integration tasks using ServiceNow-built components for Flow Designer or develop their own. The on demand IntegrationHub Fundamentals course teaches you how to quickly develop custom integrations using common protocols and package integration actions into user-friendly, reusable 'actions' for use in Flow Designer.
Suggested Learning Paths
Although the above-listed courses are all available stand-alone, Now Learning does offer two learning paths that will enroll and guide you through all of the courses. Select the path that works best for you:
- Low/Pro-Code Application Developer to learn how to script in ServiceNow and how to design and develop custom applications.
- Low/Pro-Code Integration Developer to learn how to integrate ServiceNow with other 3rd party applications and systems.
Each of these learning paths presents courses that obtain the specific Application or Integration skill as "required", but they also recommend the courses on the other path as "optional" to help round out your Application Development learning journey.
If you are a new ServiceNow developer, you are encouraged to follow the Low/Pro-Code Application Developer learning path.
If you are a ServiceNow developer with a few years of experience under your belt, you are encouraged to follow the Low/Pro-Code Integration Developer learning path to learn how to configure process automation and integrations.
