You can now get a Database Footprint of your instance straight from a Service Catalog! This catalog item is useful for those who would like to understand the the space utilization of their instances.

At ServiceNow, we are committed toward a pleasant Customer Experience and we understand that as a ServiceNow customer, you would like to have more self-service capabilities in your hand. One way we try to empower you is through our Service Catalog. Service Catalog on Now Support (HI) has many items for you to request spanning from instance management to general access - and now Database Footprint.

Note: Service Catalogs are security trimmed. Number of items visible to you are dependent on your role on Now Support (HI).

Get a Database Footprint of your Instance using a Service Catalog

You may use this catalog item to get a better understanding of your instance space and logging if you are experiencing performance issues or are just curious about the state of your database.

When to use the Database Footprint catalog item:

  • When you have enabled detailed logging on your instance and want to monitor space utilization
  • Seeing any performance issue on your instance and want to understand free space and a cause
  • Want to pro-actively track:
    • Index
    • Log
    • Other table growth 

Usually, you would reach out to ServiceNow Technical Support for this purpose, which can be a time consuming activity. We recognize your ability to get database footprint doesn't need involvement from a TSE. Keeping self-service in mind, we have created this catalog item on Now Support (HI) to help do your work more efficiently. 

To get to the catalog item (as long as you have the right role on Now Support (HI))

  1. Log in to Now Support (HI)
  2. Click "Service Catalog" on the left nav
  3. Select "Instance Management" in the Catalog Menu
  4. Click the "Database Footprint" tile

Notes

  • Due to security constraint, you need to have Administrator access of your instance.
