Overview
Out of the box there are portals that come pre-installed, but also, it is quite common to start using a portal and then stop using it to use another one. The most common case is that of the Service Portal and the Employee Centre one. However, a question many customers have is, how could we disable a portal we previously installed/used? So far there was no way to do so, and we would have to rely on redirections not to allow access to portals that are not longer in use and being maintained. Fortunately, with Xanadu there is a new field that allows us to disable them!
How to disable a portal in Xanadu
As described in the official documentation, it is quite simple. All we have to do is go to the portal we want to disable and check the "Inactive" flag.
Something the documentation doesn't mention is that there are ACLs so that nobody can list-edit these fields. During my tests I could see none of these two fields are part of the OOB layout, but this may just be my instance. In such case, remember to show them in the form to be able to edit them. Bear in mind there's another field called "Alternate Portal" we should fulfil if we want people that goes to that inactive portal to be redirected elsewhere. That field will be shown as soon as you tick the "Inactive" flag:
During my tests, I selected the "Demo Search Portal" as the Alternate portal, and this is the message we get atop:
If no alternate portal is selected users will see the following message. During my tests I selected the "CSM Outlook" portal as an example:
Finally, take into account you cannot disable the Default portal nor a portal that is being the Alternate portal for another portal. That makes total sense since it would cause either a chain of redirections.
