Hello ITOM Admins and Developers! π
For Series 5, I wanted to highlight a few newer ServiceNow ITOM capabilities worth exploring in Australia and Brazil Features.
𧩠1. Dynamic IRE
- What is Dynamic IRE?
Dynamic IRE automatically identifies and reconciles hardware CIs as data is ingested. Instead of manual rules, it scores many CI attributes in parallel to find the right match, and lets the most reliable source win, based on CMDB 360 history (how recently and how often each source reports). It covers the Hardware [cmdb_ci_hardware] class and its child classes.
- Benefits
- Fewer duplicate CIs
- No identification rules to create or maintain
- Fresher data: the most reliable source wins, not a fixed priority
- Safe rollout with simulation mode, and you can switch back to Static IRE anytime
- How to enable it
- Go to CI Class Manager > Hierarchy > Hardware > Identification Rule.
- In the Dynamic IRE section, select Simulate Dynamic IRE (test on non-production first).
- When you're happy with the results, tick the agreement and select Commit to Dynamic IRE.
Or set glide.identification_engine.dynamic_ire_enabled to true. New instances on Australia release or later already have it on.
- How to view simulated results
In the same Dynamic IRE section, check the parity score (% of identical results between Dynamic and Static IRE) and the bar charts of inserted, updated and incomplete CIs. Select a bar to list the differing records in cmdb_ire_output_comparison_item, open one for the JSON details, or select Summarize for a Now Assist summary.
Tip: Let simulation run through a full discovery cycle before you commit.

π€ 2 . ITOM MCP Server
This next feature will be a game changer coming up with the brazil release. The ITOM MCP Server enables AI tools and agents to interact with supported ServiceNow ITOM capabilities using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
This can enable use cases such as retrieving alert information, investigating operational issues, and allowing AI agents to work with ITOM data and supported actions.
π‘ Why itβs helpful:
It opens new possibilities for integrating AI assistants and agentic workflows into IT operations.
Came across this interesting article worthwhile to explore on ITOM MCP. Please check this out and let me know your thoughts
Which of these new ITOM capabilities are you most interested in exploring?
