First and foremost I take no credit for this, this work was done many moons ago by an incredible co-worker Eric Williams, who I have learned so much from but back in our day (when we came out with bulk service mapping) he created this to help folks find the DNS name for potential ServiceMapping Candidates and another community post reminded me that it should be out here...
This screen might look familiar...Service Mapping Home > Service Candidates
As we all know this is some great information to start the service mapping process but what does that IP and name actually mean? What was the actual DNS name that folks are actually consuming.. Well, welcome to Eric's great work..
This update set will create a UI action
A Business rule
A script include...
And a special DNS probe to take the input...
Which if available give you the DNS name that everyone knows of the IP address, mine is made up of course...
Obviously, It would not be wise to mass select potential Mapping candidates and have them resolve all at once. Pity the mid server that has to deal with a few thousand DNS requests all at once, so use it accordingly.
