Discovery: Missing UPS Serial Number

PhilomanR

I have discovered the UPS (Leibert) using SNMP, but the serial number is empty. The discovery log shows that

"Rule 5: Searched on <cmdb_ci_hardware> for attributes: serial_number: Skipped Identifier Entry".

Please suggest if you have faced similar issue

I would start observing related ecc_queue. Does the discovery ecc_queue input for (MultiProbe) "SNMP - Identity Probe" returned the serial number?

I don't see the <upsAdvIdentSerialNumber oid= in the ecc_queue input for (MultiProbe) "SNMP - Identity Probe

Hi,

To address the issue of the missing serial number during SNMP discovery, here are the steps you can take:

  1. Check the SNMP OID for the Serial Number:
  2. Load the Correct MIB Files:
  3. Check the SNMP Configuration on the UPS:
  4. Review the Discovery Rules:
    • Check the discovery rule configuration in your CMDB tool to ensure it is set to capture the serial number attribute and isn’t skipping it.
  5. Update the UPS Firmware:
    • If the firmware is outdated, update it to the latest version, as newer firmware may resolve SNMP-related issues.
  6. Custom Script or Identifier:
    • If the serial number is still not being discovered, consider creating a custom identifier or script to query the correct OID and populate the serial number in the CMDB.

Next Steps:

  • Run an SNMP walk on the UPS to confirm whether the serial number is being exposed.
  • Check the discovery logs for more details on why the serial number is being skipped.

If you believe the solution provided has adequately addressed your query, could you please **mark it as 'Helpful'** and **'Accept it as a Solution'**? This will help other community members who might have the same question find the answer more easily.

Thank you for your consideration.
